OSRS League 6 – How to Kill Echo Hunllef (Demonic Pacts)

Read Time:6 Minute, 49 Second

For those of you who picked Tirannwn in Old School RuneScape‘s Demonic Pacts league, who hurt you? Just kidding, I love the land of the elves, and the Gauntlet is one of my favorite bits of content in the game cause I’m a maniac. This league, Echo Hunllef makes a comeback in the Gauntlet, and it’s deceptively easy to learn.

Once you get used to it, the fight becomes an easy-to-farm activity that can take you just around a minute depending on your pacts. Let’s go over all the mechanics you have to remember!

Video example of the full fight at the bottom.

Prepping for Echo Hunllef

If you’re still new to the Gauntlet and you stumbled into this guide, make sure to check out my guide on how to complete the Corrupted Gauntlet first. You’ll need to get the Tirannwn Echo Orb from CG to attempt Echo Hunllef.

Outside of the orb, you really don’t need to prep anything in advance or within the Gauntlet itself. The exact same stats you had when you got the orb are going to suffice.

No Prep Time Inside

The first thing you’ll notice when you enter with the orb is that you’re already fully kitted with the following items:

  • Tier 3 Armor
  • All tier 3 weapons
  • 14 fish
  • 2 Egniol potions
  • A crystal dagger

You can’t travel to the other rooms for more supplies, so don’t bother trying to light them up. You already have everything you need to take on the challenge, including a new item: a crystal dagger. This weapon is extremely important, but we’ll go over why in the next section.

Get your bearings and wait for Echo Hunllef to move to one of the corners (or wherever you’re comfortable fighting it) before going in.

Special Mechanics

Since you’re already attempting this fight, I’m going to assume you already know the basics, so I’ll skip straight to the mechanics unique to this echo version of the boss. Apart from all the usual Hunllef shenanigans, here are the things you have to watch out for during the fight:

1. Full Protection Prayers

At the start of the fight, you’ll notice that Hunllef is praying against all three combat styles. To shut this prayer off, you have to use the crystal dagger’s special attack on it. This will shut off its prayers, and attacking it again will restart the normal prayer loop starting from the combat style you use next.

For example:

  1. You spec with the crystal dagger
  2. Hunllef’s prayers are now off
  3. You attack with mage
  4. Hunllef is now praying mage
  5. Fight Corrupted Hunllef like normal

Hunllef will start praying against all styles again every time you’ve removed a quarter of its health, so pay pay attention to its overheads.

2. Extra Tornadoes

As soon as the fight starts, you’ll notice that there’s already a tornado moving around the arena. This is completely separate to the ones that appear after Hunllef stomps.

These will increase in quantity throughout the fight as Hunllef loses HP, but they move in a fixed pattern and will persist throughout the whole fight. It’s a lot to take in at first, but all of these tornadoes will cross the tiles marked in the image below:

The tiles that tornadoes go through in Echo Hunllef

They move across the arena in a clockwise motion, moving diagonally across the center when they touch a corner.

It’s important to note that touching these not only deals damage, but they also turn off your prayers. This might not seem like much, but you can get quickly stacked out if you’re not careful, especially if there are normal tornadoes chasing you as well.

The best tip I can give against these is to treat the tiles that they move across as deadly zones that you should avoid at all costs. Obviously you’ll still need to cross them if the situation calls for it, but it’s better to avoid them as much as possible to minimize the risks.

3. Special Prayer Disruption

Occasionally, at the end of an attack phase, there’s a chance for Echo Hunllef to fire a dark-colored projectile that has a distinct sound cue before switching styles. When this happens, turn off your protection prayer.

This is a special version of the purple projectiles that it can fire while attacking with the mage style. The main difference is that instead of shutting off your prayers, it’ll check whether or not you have it on. If you get hit while having any protection prayer up, you will:

  • Take massive damage (up to 30+)
  • Lose some prayer points
  • Have your prayer shut off

If you turn off your prayer before it lands, you’ll take zero damage and be completely safe from it. This sounds simple, but in the heat of the moment, it’s really easy to get hit by it while avoiding 1-2 sets of tornadoes and the glowing floor tiles.

4. Double Attacks

Finally, the least notable new mechanic that’s still worth talking about is that Hunllef will now be firing two projectiles at once for its basic attacks. This is why you have to be mindful of all the prayer disruption attacks, as you will take massive damage if you’re not praying correctly.

Misc. Tips to Keep in Mind

The typical Echo Hunllef fight takes just a couple of minutes, especially if you’re playing perfectly. You’re tossed into the fight with more than enough food and potions to survive a few mistakes, but it’s definitely one of the more challenging echo bosses in the game.

Here are a few tips and Demonic Pact suggestions that might help:

  1. The 1-tick powered staff demonic pact works for the staves in the Gauntlet.
    • If you’re running that node, try the 5:1 method in which you hit Hunllef 5x with your “strong” style (in this case, the staff) and then hit with either melee or range for the 6th so that it doesn’t pray against mage.
    • While doing the 5:1 method, alternate between melee and range for your 6th attacks. Hitting Hunllef with the style it’s already praying against will not count as a “sixth attack”.
    • Listen to your attack audio! Because of how fast you attack, it’s really easy to mess up and hit more than 5x if you aren’t paying close attention.
  2. There are demonic pacts that grant prayer penetration.
    • If you have some resets available, it’s highly recommended to allocate points for 100% prayer penetration while you’re grinding the Echo Gauntlet. This cuts down fight times to just around a minute each with something like the 1-tick staff node.
    • I’ve heard people finding success with 75% penetration, but 100% just seems cozier to me.
    • Prayer penetration nodes are found in the outer parts of the pact tree and each grant 25% penetration.
  3. The “safe tiles” that never turn orange when Hunllef is at a low health threshold are also safe from the fixed tornadoes, so you can stand still at the later part of the fight if there aren’t any stomp tornadoes chasing you around.

Here’s the pact build I’m running specifically for grinding Echo Hunllef. I’m also going to be using this to farm a few other things (it’s great for lazy Demonic Gorilla farming), but this is basically tailored to the Gauntlet:

My Demonic Pacts build for Echo Hunllef

That’s it for the Echo Hunllef fight. There’s still around a month left in the Demonic Pacts league, and that’s plenty of time to catch up and enjoy the full experience. I would know, because I already have a second account catching up to try out other zones and builds!

If you have any other tips, especially for melee and ranged builds, feel free to leave them in the comments below. Also, check out my guide on how to kill Echo Amoxliatl if you somehow haven’t beaten it yet!

Here’s a full video demonstration of the fight. It’s a bit scuffed (lots of failed 5:1 lol) because it’s my first attempt without a full prayer penetration setup, but it should be representative of the average fight that isn’t full cheese:
