Need some cobalt in Hytale? It’s actually really easy to find if you know which biome to check, but you best be ready for a fight, cause it’s rough out there. Read on to learn how to find them, as well as a few tips on how to survive the mining trip!
Where to Find Cobalt Ore
Cobalt is commonly found in snowy/icy biomes (such as The Everfrost), so explore the map until you find large patches of white terrain. In my single player world, I found this straight north from my base, which the polar (heh) opposite direction of where Thorium is usually located.

Once you reach a tundra, you can start digging down or enter a natural cave to start hunting for cobalt deposits. I waited until I got to the part of the map where the ice and snow are thickest, as they become way more common there, to the point where deposits show up on the surface.
They’re easy to spot on the surface, as they have blue stones sticking out of the block. Once you start going underground, start lighting the place up with torches so you don’t miss any nodes.

Staying Alive in the Snowy Biomes
Around these parts of the map, you’ll meet the Outlanders. They’re like a bunch of viking-like enemies that will try to kill you on sight. You’ll find a lot of cobalt in their mines and settlements (even a bit of Thorium in their chests), but be ready for a relatively tough fight.
With a full set of iron gear and some looted Thorium and Outlander weapons, I still had to take my time with these guys. Yes, the mines in these biomes have a lot of cobalt deposits underground, but the entire area will be swarming with berserkers and marauders.

Bring the following to make your life a whole lot easier:
- Armor – Iron is the bare minimum if you want to comfortably tank Outlanders. There will be times where an entire group of them will rush towards you, so it can get really frantic.
- Any Shield – Their rangers will start shooting you from afar, and when there’s one, there’s usually going to be at least a few more lurking around. A shield will help you navigate areas without eating a lot of chip damage.
- Mace – This is a personal preference, but a Thorium mace can take down groups of Outlander berserkers in just a few swings. The slight knockback makes it easier to kite them as well.
- An Iron Pickaxe – The rocks in these biomes can take a lot of smacks to break, so a high durabilty and power is ideal. If you have a Thorium pickaxe, even better! Crude works in a pinch, but it’ll be slower.
- Repair Kits – Not just for your pickaxe. Fighting Outlanders can take a huge toll on your armor set’s durability, and your weapons are gonna take even more of a beating.
While it would be preferable to avoid fighting altogether, it’s worth noting that Outlanders do drop their weapons. If you love collecting new items or just want some cooler looking gear, you’ll want to try and kill them or loot their chests for some.
They’re around the same power as iron weapons, but I have a feeling that they’ll shift these numbers around at some point. Either way, they’ve got a great aesthetic, especially the Doomed Outlander Sword!

That’s really all you need to know in order to start mining cobalt. Obviously, you’ll want to bring some torches and healing supplies for the trip too, but that should be a given by now. A few wooden platforms can help if you need to get over chasms or poorly-generated mining shafts.
