Borderlands 4 – How to Get & Mount Your Vehicle

Read Time:2 Minute, 16 Second

Borderlands 4 is finally out, and as a day 1 fan from way back when we didn’t even know this was gonna be a franchise, I’m happy to report that it’s a goddamn banger. But that’s not why you’re here. Let’s talk about how you can get your first free vehicle and how it works!

(I also have a quick guide on some early game legendaries you can farm if you wanna have a strong head start!)

Getting Your First Vehicle

So, you’ve just finished the prologue and are now stuck doing errands for Claptrap. After a couple of main story objectives, you’ll start encountering side quests and activities all around the first zone, but like me, you probably thought “where the hell is the Catch a Ride station?”

Well, here’s my tip for you: Ignore the side stuff for now! Instead, keep doing the main story stuff up until you have to meet with the Outbounders. This is during the Down and Outbound quest.

This will only take you maybe half an hour at most and will be a massive time saver if you plan on doing optional content. It’s the next quest you get immediately after Recruitment Drive! You’ll need to fight through Plungeford to do it, but if you’re in a rush, just run past all the enemies and follow the gold quest marker.

Once you get to the Outbounders’ HQ at the Fadefields, help them fend off the Order and then speak with the leader, Rush (cool guy, by the way). When all the dust has settled, you’ll be rewarded with an old digirunner in the nearby garage.

After having your ECHO-4 scan it, as Conway tells you to do, you’ll now be able to summon your vehicle from almost anywhere in the map. All you need to do is press X if you are on PC or the right arrow on your controller’s D-Pad.

Your character will instantly mount your vehicle, which you can customize with different skins later on, just like this one that I’m riding right now:

That’s really all you need to know. It’s a pretty different system compared to how past Borderlands games used to handle vehicles, but that’s a topic for another day. I’m currently working on a full review of the game, which won’t be out for a while as I’m taking my time with it.

Anyways, hope that helps! Trust me, it’s worth rushing this quest before you tackle any of the side content. You’ll save so much time as you’d be running around slowly otherwise.
