With each update, new weapons are added to 99 Nights in the Forest, and there is now an entire arsenal of ranged weapons in the game. They all have their own use cases, and even the “worst” of the bunch can be powerful tools in certain situations.
In this tier list, I’ll be rating each of the ranged weapons as of the latest update of the game. Just remember that this is purely subjective and based on my own experiences with the game, and if you’ve been here before, you’ll know that I’m experienced enough that I can easily get to 500 days myself!
There’s a video version of this too, if you prefer that format:
THE TIER LIST – From Best to Worst
I’m mainly a solo player because of how much of a mess pub games can be, but since these are just weapons, having a team shouldn’t really make much of a difference. So, let’s get to the tiers:
S-Tier (The BEST)
- Rifle – The rifle is an insanely powerful gun, and you can easily stock up on ammo by simply exploring the map or crafting them yourself. The only downside to using this weapon is that it has a slow reload time, but that shouldn’t be an issue for the most part.
- Tactical Shotgun – This is self-explanatory. You can only get it from the rarest chests in the game, which downgrades for other players (if you’re in a team) after it’s been opened. The shotgun kills most things in 1-2 hits, but its ammo is really expensive!
A-Tier (They’re Good)
- Revolver – The revolver is the most reliable weapon in the game, in my opinion. Knowing how to cancel the attack delay (I have a video that can teach you that) can make this weapon a hilariously overpowered tool, as long as you can aim. Its ammo is also extremely common and cheap to make.
- Ray Gun – The ray gun is a particularly weak weapon in terms of damage, but this is balanced out by the fact that it has essentially infinite ammo with the caveat that you’ll need to manage your energy properly. It’s nice to have, but unless you play as the alien class, you’re unlikely to find one of these.

B-Tier (Fine, I Guess)
- Kunais/Throwing Knives – Unless you spawn in as an assassin, which isn’t even that great to begin with, these things are way too rare for how fast you can burn through them against even just the weakest enemies. Sure, they’re fast, but its raw damage is pretty much matched by the meager revolver.
- Frozen Shurikens – Exactly the same reason as the kunais. The only difference between these two is that the shuriken come in smaller stacks when you find some, and they can slow enemies down on hit.
- Laser Cannon – It’s a shame what happened to this weapon. It can be used to soften up or finish off groups of enemies at the cost of a lot of alien tech energy. It’s not all that great, especially now because of how exceedingly hard it is to get one unless you play as the cyborg class. In the hands of a cyborg, you can bump this up a tier or two.
C-Tier (Weak. Too Weak.)
- Snowballs – Yeah… Snowballs can be found from the chests in the snow biome, and they are just weaker versions of the frozen shuriken. They come in even smaller stacks whenever you find some in a chest, and their only real use is to slow down something that’s chasing you, like a polar bear.
And that concludes this tier list! The devs are undoubtedly going to change or add more weapons to the collection further down the line. When that happens, I’ll try to keep this as updated as I can!
