Wondering where to get Thorium in Hytale? It’s going to take a bit of RNG, of course, but finding some deposits will be hilariously easy once you get to the correct biome. You may want to get ready with some decent gear before heading out, but I’ll get straight to the point first!
Where to Find Thorium Ore
Thorium can be found in droves within the desert biome. Explore your map until you find a large patch of desert. In my single player world, I found it straight south of where I set up my first base, but this will obviously be different for each player.
Just open your map by pressing M and make sure to look around every now and then. The game reveals a comically large amount of land as you move around, so it’ll be hard to miss. Here’s what it should look like:

Once you get there, enter one of the many large holes or caves that you find. They’re easy to spot with how flat the terrain in this biome is, but you can always dig straight down if you want. Make sure to use a shovel if you’re doing the latter, because it lets you quickly break sand blocks down in chunks!
Thorium ore deposits have distinct green stones sticking out of their blocks. Thorium is extremely common in the desert, and you can very easily fill your inventory with the stuff, along with some silver and iron. You don’t even need to reach the lava layer.

A Few Tips to Prepare
At the desert, be ready for some particularly annoying enemies, even at day time. Bring the following gear with you, if possible:
- Armor – Copper is the bare minimum, but if you’ve already been gathering iron before this, bring a whole set to keep yourself healthy.
- Any Shield – Shields are insanely effective in the current state of the game, and even the copper one is nice to have regardless of what you’re fighting.
- Melee & Ranged Weapons – Aside from your favorite melee weapon, bring a ranged weapon with you if possible. There are flying enemies on the surface that will fire noxious projectiles at you, and it takes a while to lose aggro.
- An Iron Pickaxe – Bring an iron pickaxe with you, just for maximum efficiency. If your base is far away, you’ll want to have something that’ll last you an entire inventory’s worth of mining.
- Repair Kits – Finally, bring at least one repair kit for your pickaxe. Feel free to bring a few extras for your weapons or armor, but always have one ready for your pickaxe. With how much mining you’ll be doing, there’s a high chance you’ll break the damn thing before finishing your trip.
And that’s all you need to be fully kitted for a single, long mining trip! The enemies underground are mainly going to be different variants of skeletons and bugs. It’s the surface where you’ll have to worry about desert-specific enemies.
Don’t forget to bring the other obvious essentials with you, like torches and food for healing. A stack of wooden platforms may be helpful too, in case your world generates a bunch of chasms blocking your way.
